Goldie & Geller in urgent need of a new home - SORTED!

UPDATE (08.05.11) - Goldie & Geller are now settled into their new home in Yorkshire as the photo above shows. They look pretty happy to be there!
A dedicated PAWS member, June Brownlee, saw the story about these two on PAWS Facebook page, and promptly set to work solving the problem. June sent photos of the dogs to a shelter in the UK who immediately agreed to take them. She then began the mammoth task of finding a transport to take them back. Initially all were either fully booked or too expensive.
"Then by chance I saw on Facebook that Paws for Thought had been let down by a charity in the UK and had two spaces on their transport to UK five days later --- so I contacted them and agreed a price." So Goldie and Geller were able to depart on the first part of their journey to a new life!
These spontaneous acts of kindness always have a price - Goldie and Geller's orginal (and devoted) owners paid the veterinary and transport costs in full and gave PAWS a generous donation. In June's case it involved 640 km travel to liaise with the owners and to take the dogs to where the UK transport could collect them. But her response to heartfelt thanks from PAWS and the dogs' owners: "No thanks needed - we do what we do for the dogs, which is little compared with the need here in Spain."
Thanks June, and thanks Paws for Thought, for helping to bring a happy ending to ths particular problem. But none of this would have been possible if Goldie and Geller’s owners had not already equipped them with UK pet Passports – which is why PAWS recommends all pet owners complete this. You never know when you’ll need it! (see the step by step guide to the procedure here)
Goldie and Geller are two lovely cross-bred Husky siblings, adopted as puppies from PAWS . They settled beautifully into their new home, and for three years were ideal company for the elderly couple who had adopted them -- affectionate, good guard dogs and friendly with children (if a little boisterous).
But then illness, and the increasing effects of age began to change the dynmics of the home. The husband - 80 this year - became ill and could no longer exercise the dogs. The wife had to take over - but she was struggling with increasing arthritis and sometimes found it difficult to cope with both dogs on leads at the same time.
A combination of these and other circumstances now means that the couple are faced with returning to England later this year, to more supported accommodation where they could not keep the dogs with them. They fully understand the present PAWS predicament, in which no new dogs can be accepted at the shelter - a policy to which there can be no exceptions.

But they are desperate to find a good new home (or homes) for the two animals who have been such an important part of their lives. The dogs are fully-up-to-date with their injections and both have current pet passports. The would make ideal additions to any family where the children were not too young.
