Hi!  My name is NELLIE!

Goat Dog Mongrels
Born approx March 2005
Height 47cms.

Well we guess you have got to be very nice to sponsor us.

We didn't know really quite how to tell our story, but we have had a lot of help from the other sponsor dogs who live here at the Shelter with us and they told us how we came to be here.

Apparently we were poor little twins, left outside by the gate of PAWS Shelter, we were tied up so tight in a tiny little box. It was so hot and we do remember being so thirsty and hungry, and were so relieved to taken out of that box. We didn't know what was going to happen to us and were really frightened. The humans that found us said we were covered in those horrid ticks and quite obviously had had no food or anything for a long time, absolutely starving.

That part of it we still do remember, it is still sometimes for us a real night-dog or is that perhaps “mare” you humans do use funny words, any way when we get those horrible thoughts it makes all our paws tremble. Luckily they let us into this place, its not always easy as there are so many of us dogs and puppies abandoned and there isn’t always any space, but what else to do? We had to spend some time in quarantine, (that meant we couldn’t meet the other dogs as we do now, you wouldn’t believe how afraid we were, still not knowing what was going to happen to us as we were ,just like very small puppies. Then we found out that humans can be kind when they try, but we don't trust everybody, well not just yet, perhaps when we get a little bit more sure of ourselves we might let anyone stroke us. We really like the humans that look after us, but are still very afraid of some of the visitors.

We are now gaining confidence with every day, and love to play with all the other dogs, and go for walks with the volunteers; our particular favorite is the shelter manager.

Lady who has been a Sponsor dog, PAWS has looked after her for many years and Henry her oldest friend, explained to us what it means to be a sponsor dog. It really made us feel a whole lot better knowing that we would never be just thrown out like rubbish tied up in a parcel. Wish Henry wasn’t so old, we think he’s the handsomest dog we have ever seen, he’s just been taken into a foster home, lucky old thing, but he jolly well deserves a nice family after being here in the kennels so long, so we wish him all the luck in the world.

We do see all sort of dogs and puppies come and go, we are told they have found their golden basket with nice people who will love them and take care of them for the rest of their lives.

Although we are Sponsor dogs we really would like to have baskets of our own, but until then thank you for helping us by becoming our special Sponsor.  We really should like to see you sometime if you can come to see us.

The good news is that Toula is off to Holland as she has a nice new home!
