Max and Lily - survivors of horrible cruelty - find new homes.

XXpaw Max and Lily are two delightful dogs who were subjected to the most brutal cruelty - but survived. And now PAWS can write the final chapter to this moving success story - both dogs departed on the recent transport to Germany where they received enthuysiastic welcomes in their new homes.

Their individual stories of what happened, and how they fought back to full health and strength were told here on our website. Max was thrown from a speeding car, sustaining horrific injuries including a broken rib which punctured his lung and caused internal bleeding. Lily had been used - literally - as a canine football by a group of youths in Los Gallardos until her back was broken and she had cuts to her face and body. She was then thrown over the Shelter fence.

It was thought at first that both might need expensive surgery, although they would need to regain some strength before undergoing it. In the event, after intial treatment by the PAWS vet, the dogs' survival instincts - combined with the patient nurturing of expert foster carers - was all that was needed. Both made full recoveries and returned to being the friendly and responsive animals they had been originally.

On January the 28th they were loaded up, along with 16 other dogs, and driven to Germany where new homes and new owners were waiting for them. PAWS heard back from Lily’s new owners within days—the two children fell in love with her instantly and she is now at the centre of family life.

Max with Didi Arias, PAWS Animal Behaviourist, and Lily, all ready to go.

xxpaw Max and Lily are symbols of the worst attitudes to animals that PAWS is constantly fighting - but also of the countless triumphs that we can and do achieve. And that is down entirely to the generosity of members and supporters who contribute to maintaining the shelter, paying the veterinary bills and making recoveries like Max & Lily's possible. The commitment and will is there, but more money will always needed if PAWS is to succeed.

If you can make a donation towards our Emergency Fund to help dogs like Max and Lily please go to the our 'Donate' page where you will find instructions on how to send us some money. Every contribution helps, however small.
