PAWS is delighted to announce that the new boutique was formally opened on Saturday 3rd December. The ceremony was performed by Mojacar's Lady Mayoress, Rosa Maria Cano.
PAWS was gifted a 10-year lease on the premises, free of charge, by Mojácar Town Council. Speaking before cutting the ribbon, Sra Cano said the grant was "... a grain of sand in recognition of PAWS' work over 20 years to rid the town of stray and abandoned animals - and we hope it will help them to continue the work for another 20 years."
The PAWS shop has been operating on Mojácar Playa for the past ten years, in the arcade next to the Juana Torres tobacco shop near the Parador. This will close for the last time on Saturday 24th December. It will be replaced by a new main shop in the corner unit of Multi-Centro, opposite the boutique. The Multicentro is located across the road from the Parque Comercial.
It will be used to showcase the kind of clothes, shoes, bags and accessories that the society puts together for Paws Fashion Shows. It will also stock PAWS’ own merchandise. Initially it will only open for 3 days a week, Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays. The opening hours will be the same as the existing shop, 10.30-13.30.
Sra Cano was surprised and impressed by the quality of the clothes and accessories available in the shop, and bought a sweater, scarf and necklace for herself. She promised to tell her Spanish friends that this was definitely a place to check out for bargains! The shop has always been PAWS’ main generator of funds needed to run the shelter at Los Gallardos. Last year it brought in nearly €80.000.
