There are some humans that think we are a waste of time on four-legs, I wonder if these folk have ever considered just how much we do for you humans. We are not all work and no play you know, yes we need feeding, watering, exercising etc but just what do we do for you.

1. When you stroke us which we really go a bundle on it helps you to release your endorphins, by doing this we can help to relieve some of your stress and help to alleviate pain.

2. Companions. I think we make wonderful Companions, we sit on the best chair with you, take you for walks, listen attentively you can see this how we move our ears – of course we do hear quite a lot of rubbish sometimes. Even if you have been in a temper with us we never hold a grudge and will give you a sympathetic lick, wag of tail, and always give you affection.

3. We help guide the blind, some of these “seeing” dogs do a lot more things as well.

4. We have even learned to help the disabled bringing things opening fridges – cor I really would like to learn that – think of all the goodies just waiting to be eaten. I am told not to be ridiculous the training includes not helping one-self – I wonder if that’s really true.

5. We help deaf people, because our ears are really sharp and we can let them know when there is someone at the door or if that dratted phone rings.

6. We do rescue work, finding and digging people out of snow or earthquakes.

7. Police dogs now they work really hard, chasing and catching criminals – I bet that’s good fun, as long as they don’t have a gun, Sniffing out all sorts of drugs, even dynamite and bombs and things, - don’t think I fancy that, must be really dangerous, that’s because we have such wonderful noses, I think you humans must miss a lot.

8. We also have a good nose and can tell when some sets something ablaze a really good dog can small flame accelerant, well fancy that now.

9. Have you heard the latest thing just how clever tails we are, we can even detect some forms of cancer just by our wonderful smelling ability.

10. Then there are the working dogs, cattle and sheep dogs who cannot b e replaced, can you imagine a human haring around after those silly sheep, I can hardly stand up for laughing, those sheep would run rings round them.

11. So my two legged friends, when you get fed up with us and dump us and treat us so badly, just have a thought about what we do for you with love.
